 My Fame

Today I'm gonna' paint four murals,
school toilets full'a pirates and mermaids

Before, I painted two kid's toilets at a church,
Tom Sawyer and Prince and Princesses,
a boys urinal(a tree),
a nursery room and a crawler room
full'a trees, bugs, birds,
farm animals, mother cats, dogs, pigs , cows
some nursing their young'uns

Yesterday painted three boys on a beach, joyfully playin'
Long-ago painted ivy on the walls of the golden age group

When younger, I painted awe-inspiring scenes of far-away places

I organically started this down-home stuff.

I'm gonna leave Georgia
This is my birth-place
Thought I'd die here
Prepared for it

Now forced to live longer
Goin' to Texas
Where my kids are.
to die there.

Leavin' this for my legacy here
As proud as if I left
Some great work of art
Fit for the Lourve

Goin' back to Texas
Where I drew;
Portraits of mentally retarded inmates,
Forgotten by everyone,
on xerox paper,
given to the inmates to hang in their "stalls"

I am the Goddess of Failure
The Saint of Lost Causes
A non- catholic friend of St. Anthony
The patron saint of things that are lost(like causes)

I love the unsucessful, unfullfilled and
crippled.
not because I feel pity for them
but because they are the ones who help you
when you're down.

Even household gods,
And gods that don't exist
