NUDE JOHN DOE Luis Cuatemochi Berriozabal

John Doe would
keep his mouth
clamped shut. He
opened it
only to
eat and that
was rarely.
Trays of food
would be left
untouched, hot
food turning
cold on the
tray. For a
man who did
not like to
say much, he
sure had no
shame most days,
parading
nude in the
hallway in
front of all
the patients
and workers
in the psych
ward. It took
much prompting
to get him
clothed. Without
words he made
his statements.
He did not
open his
mouth to take
medicine.
He did not
flinch when he
was given
injections.
Wrapped in a
blanket on
the floor of
his room he
lay sleeping,
his name a
mystery
to us all.
